Queen Latifah Gives Powerful National Anthem Performance At NFL Game, Fans React

Multifaceted rapper Queen Latifah, 53, stunned many by singing the National Anthem before the NFL’s Giants vs. Cowboys game at MetLife Stadium on Sunday (Sept. 9).

Queen Latifah sang the country’s anthem just a few miles from where she grew up in Newark and East Orange, New Jersey. During the now-viral performance, the talented artist put her own spin on the song, which also served as a tribute to 9/11.

Following the moving performance, many celebrities and fans praised Queen Latifah for her singing voice. One of the stars that gave the “Living Single” actress her flowers was newly crowned U.S. Open women’s winner Coco Gauff, who reportedly referred to the performance as “one of the greatest anthems.”

Fat Joe, Adam Blackstone, and Chuck D were also in attendance for the game and cheered on their musically talented friend.

Though she’s a woman of many talents, some were shocked to find out Latifah has a powerful singing voice.

One person shared via X (formerly known as Twitter),

“I haven’t seen Queen Latifah in years now she’s singing the anthem? Didn’t know she could sing tbh”

Another commented,

“People are JUST finding out that Queen Latifah sings? Have they not seen ‘Chicago’ or ‘Hairspray’? Or saw that she released two jazz albums? Or even when she played Bessie Smith in that HBO movie?”

Some, however, weren’t surprised at all by Latifah’s skills. One fan commented,

“One of the best I’ve ever heard. She gave me chills, she is immensely talented! “New Jersey’s own” absolute perfection”

Another said,

“Aunty just sung them notes right of the score made me feel this rendition was a track on a all patriotic songs from American History.”

Despite the shock for her musical talents that some expressed, it’s important to note that Latifah is a known musical artist (in addition to being an actress) and even won a Grammy for her hit song “U.N.I.T.Y.”

As previously reported, back in April, Queen Latifah became the first female rapper to be added to the National Registry of Music, a prestigious institution housed by the Library of Congress.

From her acting roles to her iconic music career, it’s definitely clear that Queen Latifah’s talent has no bounds.
