Selena Gomez Seemingly Denies Shading Chris Brown At The VMAs + Rapper Responds: ‘Let Me Mind My Business’
Is there drama brewing between Chris Brown and Selena Gomez?
Many seem to think that the “Calm Down” artist recently shaded Chris Brown last night (Sept. 12) at the VMAs. During the viral moment, Selena Gomez was in the audience as the nominees for Best R&B were read, and seemingly frowned her face when Chris Brown’s name was announced for his song “How Does It Feel,” which features Chloe Bailey.
She also appeared to drop her hands down to her lap instead of clapping for Brown. Meanwhile, her “Calm Down” co-singer Rema, who sat beside her, clapped for the two fellow artists.
Immediately after the R&B duo’s nomination was announced, however, Gomez reportedly picked her hands back up to clap for Nicki Minaj and Yung Bleu’s nomination for their song “Love In The Way.”

Many viewers of the award show felt Gomez’s distasteful reaction to the “Go Crazy” singer may have something to do with his reported history of abusing women. Most infamously, in 2009 Brown pleaded guilty to a felony for physically assaulting his then-girlfriend Rihanna.
Following the ceremony, the “Rare Beauty” founder took matters into her own hands and posted a statement to her Instagram Stories to seemingly shut down rumors that she shaded Brown. She wrote,
“I will never be a meme again. I’d rather sit still than be dragged for being myself. Much love”
Gomez even went the extra mile to let folks know she’s unfazed by the entire situation. Under a report of the incident online, she commented,
“Who cares lol”
Earlier today (Sept. 13) Brown appeared to address the viral moment in a now-deleted post shared to his Instagram Stories. He uploaded a picture with the caption that read,
“IM THE GOAT and you know it”
In his next story, which he did not delete, he continued,
“Let me mind my business”
