Drake Reveals 21 Savage Secured His Green Card After Previously Being Detained By ICE For Illegal Immigrant Status
Rap star 21 Savage can finally move around the world freely!
According to his fellow rapper and friend Drake, the musician was able to obtain a green card and can now work and live permanently in the US.
If you recall back in 2019, 21 Savage, real name Shéyaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, was arrested by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for allegedly having an expired visa. The 30-year-old was originally born in London but moved to Atlanta, GA with his mother at the age of 7. Authorities claimed the rap star had been living illegally in the US for years, adding he allegedly discarded a bottle containing codeine and had a handgun during the arrest. This, coupled with the backlog from COVID-19, reportedly pro-longed his fight with immigration to become a legal US citizen.
Three long years after the incident happened, however, 21 was finally able to secure his green card. Drake, real name Aubrey Graham, 36, claimed in his single “8AM IN CHARLOTTE” that his “Her Loss” collaborator is moving on from the ordeal, rapping:
“Savage got a green card straight out of the consulate/Where I go, you go, brother, we Yugoslavian.”
Reportedly, the timing is perfect for 21 as he’s scheduled to perform his first out-of-country show with Drake in his hometown of Toronto this coming weekend. Due to the legal implications of his immigration status, the “Rich Flex” artist has not been able to perform at shows outside of the US on the duo’s “It’s All A Blur” tour, which kicked off back in July.
While it doesn’t seem that 21 has spoken publicly about his green card situation at this time, reports did not that the Dekalb Co. Clerk, where the immigration case was reportedly held, confirmed that the case is closed.
