Paris Officials Caution Celebrities Who Attended Fashion Week To Thoroughly Inspect Their Belongings To Avoid Returning Home w/ Bed Bugs Amid Outbreak

Could the star-studded Paris Fashion Week cause a pandemic?

City health officials reportedly put out a notice to traveling celebs recently, urging them to be extra careful returning home in order to lessen the chance of a worldwide bed bug infestation.

In case you’re unfamiliar, Paris, France has been grappling with a serious outbreak of bed bugs. Though it’s not exactly clear where or when the problem began, sightings of the insects have been recorded in public spaces across the city, including on busses, subways, and in hotel rooms.

The problem couldn’t have come at a worse time as the annual Paris Fashion Week, held September 25th – October 3rd, attracted hundreds of international celebs and entertainment professionals to the European capital. Famed faces such as Zendaya, Issa Rae, Pharrell, and Kim Kardashian all attended gatherings at the affair, which may have exposed them to an undesired pest problem.

Reportedly, a board-certified entomologist named Dr. Jim Fredericks recently released a statement warning celebrities about the risk of them carrying bed bugs back home. The insect professional also offered some precautions everyone who attended the event could take to minimize the risk.

For starters, attendees who stayed or are currently staying in Paris hotel rooms or have engaged in public transportation are urged to thoroughly check their luggage and bedding. Both areas reportedly tend to be nesting grounds for the pesky insects. Additionally, visitors should check for fecal matter and exoskeletons to determine if an infestation has been present.

Once home, the professional suggested taking the same inspection precautions, and thoroughly washing all belongings whether or not the presence of bed bugs has been found. He also said to dry everything on high heat. Despite there not being a fatal risk of spreading bed bugs, they certainly can leave nasty itchy bites and be very difficult to get rid of. Some reports have shown concern about the Olympic Games that are to be held in Paris in the spring of next year, expressing their hopes that the city will have the issue under control by then.
