Black girl magic is taking over the 2024 Grammy nominations!
R&B singers SZA and Victoria Monét top the most nominated artist list with 9 and 7 nominations respectively, while a slew of newcomers received their nominee debut.
The list of the 2024 Grammy nominations was released earlier today (November 10). Sitting right at the top of the list, is chart topping songstress SZA, real name Solána Imani Rowe, 34. With her critically acclaimed record “SOS”, which debuted in December of last year, the singer garnered nominations in 3 of the 4 major categories, including Album of the Year, as well as Song of the Year and Record of the Year for her hit single “Kill Bill”. As we previously covered, SZA’s first #1 album certainly earned the attention it’s getting. The record spent 7 consecutive weeks (10 non consecutive) at the top spot on Billboard’s Top 200 Chart upon its release. Additionally, it broke the record for the largest streaming week for an R&B album in the US.

Singer/songwriter Victoria Monét’s recognition has been long coming and well earned as well. Before making a name for herself as a performing artist, the 34-year-old wrote hits for quite a few industry big names, including Ariana Grande, Fifth Harmony, Selena Gomez, and Brandy. She also received her first ever Grammy nomination for the work she did on Chloe x Halle’s 2020 hit “Do It”.

Victoria Mone?t
With her popular single “On My Mama” and the debut of her first studio album “Jaguar II”, Monét also received nominations for Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Record of the Year and even secured a nom in the 4th major category for Best New Artist”. Her competition in all categories is steep, facing off with the likes of recurring nominees such as Taylor Swift and Olivia Rodrigo for their albums and singles “Midnights”/”Anti-Hero” and “Guts”/”Vampire” respectively. However, the music artist is also going against popular breakout stars such as Coco Jones and Ice Spice for Best New Artist. The latter especially has had a stellar year.

Ice Spice
Ice Spice, real name Isis Naija Gaston, 23, became Billboard’s “artist with the most Hot 100 top-five singles” this year with popular collaborations such as “Boy’s a Liar Pt. 2” with Pink Pantheress (who is also Grammy nominated this year), as well as hit “Princess Diana Remix” featuring Nicki Minaj. The female rapper’s went on to collab again for “Barbie World”, a song from the billion dollar “Barbie” movie also released this year, furthering cementing Ice Spice as an artist to watch.
Elsewhere on the nominee list includes newcomer Coi Leray who’s nominated for the first time in the categories of Best Pop Dance Recording and Best Rap Performance for her single “Players”. As well as a few other recurring nominees such as Drake & 21 Savage, Janelle Monét, Doja Cat, Babyface, J. Cole & Lil Durk and more. You can view the full list of nominees at the link below!
