Several high profile entertainer’s were recently hit with sexual assault lawsuits from cases that were previously passed the statute of limitations.

Famous celebs such as Bill Cosby, Jamie Foxx and Diddy are accused of being sexually inappropriate towards women, and may have to face the consequences.

According to reports, more than 2,500 new lawsuits have been filed under the New York legislation, Adult Survivors Act. The bill reportedly allows victims of sexual violence to file civil grievances on cases where the statute of limitations have already passed. Individuals only had a year window to file their complaints, as the deadline is approaching on the 24th of this month. A few notable cases that happened as a result of the act heave already garnered national headlines.

The bombshell case against Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, filed by his ex Cassandra ‘Cassie’ Ventura, is one that immediately caught massive attention. As we previously covered, the “Me & U” singer claimed in a 35 page court document that she was subjected to physical abuse and sex trafficking by the music mogul throughout their relationship from 2005-2018. Ultimately, the two quickly settled the matter shortly after the suit was filed. However, Diddy’s name was back in headlines after a longtime executive of his Bad Boys Entertainment brand was sued for sexual assault under the same act.

While other cases against entertainers and industry professionals such as L.A. Reid and Cuba Gooding Jr. have already been reported on, the case against singer/actor Jamie Foxx is much more green. As we recently covered, the “They Cloned Tyrone” star stands accused of inappropriately groping a fan back in 2015. In her suit, Jane Doe reportedly claims that Foxx:

”[slid] his hands into Plaintiff’s pants and [placed] his fingers on and in Plaintiff’s vagina and anus.”

Jane Doe is reportedly suing for sexual assault and battery for an undisclosed amount. Bill Cosby, who has been no stranger to assault claims in the past few years, was also hit with another lawsuit under the act. Reportedly, a woman claims she was drugged and sexually assaulted by the TV star back in the 80’s and is also suing for an undisclosed amount. Her accusations are consistent with other women who claim they were abused by the legendary entertainer that resulted in him serving a short prison sentence, though it doesn’t appear a judge has yet ruled on the newest matter.

Cosby’s lawyer, who quickly condemned the new accusation, has been one of a few who have argued against the passing of the adult survivors act. In a recent interview he reportedly stated:

“I will urge the public to reach out to their legislators and demand that they close these Look Back Windows because they are being abused to go after successful, wealthy men like Diddy, Steven Tyler, and LA Reid,”

Adding:

“When will it stop and who will be the next man to be victimized by these Look Back Windows?”

It is unclear at this time how many of these cases will actually result in damages awarded.
