‘General Hospital’ Star Sonya Eddy’s Family Wants Her Posthumous Emmy Award Taken From Her Friend & Given To Them
Sonya Eddy’s family is fighting to receive her 2023 Emmy Award.
Late soap opera star Sonya Eddy received a posthumous Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series almost one year after her untimely death. The General Hospital star played the role of head nurse Epiphany Johnson for 16 years. The Emmy was accepted by her friend and producing partner, Tyler Ford.
However, Sonya Eddy’s family recently said that Tyler Ford never handed the award over to them and now they’re demanding that the Television Academy step in to assist in their efforts to retrieve what they feel should have been given to them in the first place.

Sonya’s younger brother, Robbie Eddy, shared with TMZ that the Television Academy didn’t even bother to tell them beforehand that she would be winning an Emmy. After Tyler informed Sonya’s family of his plans to keep the award, they sent a letter to the Television Academy asking the organization to intervene.

Though Sonya’s brother seems to be spearheading the plea for possession of his sister’s prize, it’s been reported that Sonya was estranged from her sibling before she died. Allegedly, the two were at odds regarding the care of their mother, who has Alzheimer’s and dementia. However, Robbie, said that he and Sonya started the work to repair their relationship shortly before she passed away.
If given the award, Sonya’s family reportedly plans to hand it over to her mom, who sponsored and supported the actress’ Hollywood career.

As previously reported, Sonya died following complications from surgery. The sad news of her passing was announced by fellow actress and friend Octavia Spencer, who posted,
“My friend @sonyaeddy passed away last night. The world lost another creative angel. Her legions of @generalhospitalabc fans will miss her. My thoughts and prayers are with her loved ones, friends, and fans!”

The family does not plan to take legal action against Tyler, nor do they want to tarnish Sonya’s memory. However, they do hope that he does the right thing.
