One thing for sure, the BeyHive is going to show out for Beyoncé every single time!
The world was shocked Sunday night (Feb. 11) when they learned that the next part in Beyoncé’s Renaissance Trilogy is reportedly going to be a country music album, which is scheduled to be released next month on March 29. To get the ball rolling on the highly-anticipated project, Beyoncé dropped two new country songs entitled “Texas Hold ‘Em” and “16 Carriages.”
It wasn’t long until both tracks reportedly shot to the top of the Top 100: Global Apple Music chart, initially holding the number one and two spots respectively following their release.
Due to how well the songs have been received by the public, it should come as no surprise that fans have already started to call in to radio stations to request to hear them. However, it may be a little shocking to learn that at least one station has allegedly straight out refused to play the songs on-air. Today (Feb. 13) an X user took to their account to slam Oklahoma-based KYKC for seemingly discriminating against Beyoncé. The fan showed the email response he received from the station when he asked for the multi-Grammy Award winner’s new music to be added to their rotation. KYKC reportedly replied,
“Hi – we do not play Beyonce’ on KYKC as we are a country music station.”
Of course, it didn’t take long for Beyoncé’s loyal fan base to spring into action, with many sharing that they contacted the station about its questionable decision. Following the backlash, the station has since spoken out in a statement shared with TheShadeRoom, a rep for KYKC said,
“I think we issued just a generic reply when we should have been more detailed. If someone emailed our country station and requested a Rolling Stones song we would have probably replied the same. Beyonce’ is known for NOT being a country artist, so we just replied to that effect.”
The statement continued,
“But….we are actually excited that she has ‘crossed over’ to a new genre and we will watch it closely to see if bigger stations start playing it and to watch it on the chart. We do play the song on our Top 40 station, KXFC, but haven’t added it yet to our country station. We are big Beyonce’ fans here and really hope it does well, as we like seeing new artists get into the format.”
According to a report from TMZ, KYKC did eventually play “Texas Hold ‘Em” for the first time this afternoon.
