Madonna Reflects On ‘Near-Death Experience’ That Had Her In An Induced Coma For Days: ‘God Was Saying To Me, “Do You Wanna Come With Us?”‘
Pop icon Madonna opened up about the bacteria infection that nearly took her life.
During a recent concert, the 65-year-old shared how she fought through the ordeal and thanked the many professionals who helped her on the road to recovery.

Reportedly, Madonna recounted the “near-death experience” while performing in Los Angeles on Monday (March 4th). In a 9-minute speech, woven into a couple of acoustic performances of her hit songs like “Don’t Tell Me” and “Express Yourself,” the songstress shared:
“This summer I had a surprise. It’s called… um… a near-death experience. Yes, and I’m not kidding. It was pretty scary.”
She continued:
“Obviously, I didn’t know for four days, because I was in an induced coma. But when I woke up, the first word I said was ‘No.’ Anyway, that’s what my assistant tells me. And I’m pretty sure that God was saying to me, ‘Do you wanna come with us? You wanna come with me? You wanna go this way?’ And I said, ‘No. No. NO!”

As we previously covered, Madonna postponed her highly anticipated “Celebration World Tour” last June after falling ill with a serious bacteria infection. The concert series was initially set to begin last July, but ended up being pushed back until October so that the 7x Grammy Award winner could recover. In a statement released after the entertainer had some time to recoup from the illness, Madonna shared that she immediately thought of her children and fans who were excited to attend her forthcoming show, stating at the time:
“Thank you for your positive energy, prayers and words of healing and encouragement…My first thought when I woke up in the hospital was my children. My second thought was that I did not want to disappoint anyone who bought tickets for my tour,”

The singer once again remembered those feelings of wanting to avoid disappointing her supporters during the recent concert. Revealing that she told her manager Guy Oseary she wanted to be back on the stage two months after waking from the medically induced coma, Madonna recalled:
“When I was sick this summer and I literally couldn’t walk from my bed to the toilet…When [Guy] said, ‘Well, when do you think you wanna go back on tour?’… I took the oxygen out of my nose, I looked at him, and I said, ‘In two f*cking months!‘ … I swear to God, I just said it. And sometimes you just gotta say sh*t, put that out in the universe, and it happens.”

Madonna went on to thank her loved ones, children, and the doctors who were “kind” and “patient” with her many questions about her health. She also shared that uncertainty about when she’d “feel like myself again” ultimately taught her to let go, stating:
“It was a strange thing to finally not feel like I was in control. And that was my lesson to let go.”
