Dr. Dre Says He Suffered 3 Strokes During His Hospitalization For 2021 Brain Aneurysm
Music legend Dr. Dre is opening up about what he experienced when he suffered a brain aneurysm three years ago.
During a recent interview, the 59-year-old rapper/music producer candidly discussed the challenges he faced while hospitalized and in the intensive care unit. According to Dr. Dre, he admitted himself to the hospital after he began feeling pain behind his right ear.

He recalled,
“Next thing you know, I’m blacking out. I’m in and out of consciousness and I ended up in the ICU. I was there for two weeks. I’m hearing the doctors coming in and ‘You don’t know how lucky you are.’”
In the interview, Dr. Dre, real name Andre Young, shared that he experienced three strokes during his two-week stay at the hospital. He also learned that he had high blood pressure despite his efforts to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Dre said,
“I’m lifting weights, I’m running, I’m doing everything I can to keep myself healthy. I said, ‘Would that have prevented it if I had worked out a little bit harder or ate different or something like that?’ It’s like, no. That’s hereditary.”

He continued and expressed his gratitude for life after surviving the near-fatal experience.
“When you go through that situation, it’s crazy especially when I was on my way home from the hospital because possibly, that couldn’t have happened. I don’t know. It’s crazy, so now knowing that I had no control over that. It’s just something that could happen out of the blue.”
As previously reported, the famed hip-hop artist was hospitalized at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles after suffering a brain aneurysm in 2021. At the time, he released a social media statement to his Instagram account and wrote,
“Thanks to my family, friends and fans for their interest and well wishes. I’m doing great and getting excellent care from my medical team. I will be out of the hospital and back home soon. Shout out to all the great medical professionals at Cedars. One Love!!”

Not knowing the severity of his health scare, Dre shared in a previous interview that his doctors brought his family to his room to say their final goodbyes. He said,
“They weren’t allowing anybody to come up, meaning visitors or family or anything like that because of COVID, but they allowed my family to come in. I found out later they called them up so they could say their last goodbyes because they thought I was out of here.”
The musician continued,
“I didn’t know it was that serious. I’m seeing my mom and my sister and everybody coming in the room, and nobody told me. I had no idea. That was crazy.”
Dre added,
“I never felt like I was in trouble. … That was a really crazy experience, [but] I came out of it stronger.”
