Jill Scott Slammed On Social Media After Praising Chris Brown: ‘Being An Abuse Apologist Doesn’t Even Surprise Me’
Looks like the internet is not here for Jill Scott sharing her vote of support for Chris Brown.
The soul singer trended on X (formerly Twitter) earlier today (Sunday, April 21st) as social media users criticized her for celebrating her fellow entertainer’s diverse skill set.

It seems Jill Scott caught wind of Chris Brown’s recent diss record towards Quavo were he flexed his rap skills, and felt compelled to shout him out online. Praising the “No Guidance” singer, the Philly native wrote:
“@chrisbrownisamazing. How does ANYBODY sing like THAT? Dance, look, Act and Rap… like THAT? Beyond gifted. It appears, exceptional people have to go through exceptional [fire emoji]. There’s nothing to debate.”

Chris Brown
When one internet user responded that the women Chris Brown has been accused of abusing wouldn’t agree, Jill Scott rebutted:
“I doubt it. My Mother’s ex husband was a mean, violent human AND he could lay foundation better than anyone in my city. What he did with cement was awe inspiring. We got away. He got a raise and praise for his ability. God dealt with the rest.”

After the remark, social media users quickly blasted the “Golden” singer. Some argued that Brown shouldn’t be forgiven because the violent tendencies he displayed during his infamous fight with Rihanna seems to have carried over into other relationships. Others took issue with Scott showing any kind of support from Brown since, as she mentioned, her own mother was a victim of domestic violence.

As one user mentioned, Scott isn’t the first celeb to catch backlash at Brown’s expense. In recent years, the controversial R&B star has released songs with newcomer Chloe Bailey and veteran performer Ciara, who both faced intense backlash for working with Brown despite his history with violence.

Like Scott, Kelly Rowland is another starlet who was bashed online for simply showing support to Brown and asking that people learn to forgive. Despite the heat, however, Scott went on to make clear that she isn’t here to do anything but encourage love. She wrote to X amid the criticism:
“Look. Years of prayer, therapy, self reflection, & making every effort to keep my feet on the ground has made me compassionate for other human beings. People go through [poop emoji] and do terrible [poop emoji]. We say we believe in God ; pray for enlightenment. We ARE a living testimony.”
