Mary J. Blige Says She’s ‘Definitely’ Going To Retire In ‘Five Or Six Years’
R&B songstress Mary J. Blige recently dished about her future in the entertainment industry.
The singer revealed that while she plans to continue acting and singing in the immediate future, she is thinking about her retirement.
Mary J. Blige, 53, spoke on the matter during a recent interview. The “Family Affair” hit-maker shared how she sees her life playing out over the next few years, stating:
“Right now, I’m definitely gonna do some more acting and I’m definitely gonna retire in, like, five or six years.”
“I’m still doing what I’m doing but not as often as I was doing it because I don’t have to now.”
With an expansive entertainment career that ventures into music, TV, and children’s book writing, Mary J. Blige has certainly achieved a lot in her more than 3 decades in the industry. To date, the New York native has earned 9 Grammy Awards, appeared in numerous TV and movies, and was even recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Blige also spoke about the honor during her interview, adding:
“[It’s] the most amazing thing…It is in a class by itself.”
Though Blige didn’t touch on it in the interview, her comment about continuing acting will mean we’ll get to see the actress expand her screen career to something new. As you may know, Blige’s recurring role in the 50 Cent-produced Power Book II: Ghost series will be ending with the release of its 4th season after being on air since September 2020.
It’s unclear exactly what Blige may pursue next as far as acting goes, but she also did reveal that she’s currently dating and making music that reflects the happiness in her life, adding during the interview:
“Mary is singing about life. Life… love… being stable and understanding you can have things like love. You can have a good life.”
