Dr.Dre’s Wife Is Challenging Their Prenup In $1 Billion Divorce Battle, Says She Was Afraid To Sign It & Felt Pressured
Dr.Dre’s Wife Is Challenging Their Prenup In $1 Billion Divorce Battle
Nicole Young, Dr. Dre’s estranged wife, reportedly filed legal documents stating that she allegedly was forced to sign her prenup before they got married in 1996. When asked about signing the prenup, Nicole Young reportedly stated that before the couple got married,
“I was extremely reluctant, resistant and afraid to sign the agreement and felt backed into a corner. Given the extraordinary pressure and intimidation by Andre, I was left with no option but to hire a lawyer (of course, with the help of Andre’s team of professionals) and unwillingly signed the agreement very shortly before our marriage.”
Nicole then says that around two years into the marriage,
“Andre acknowledged to me that he felt ashamed he had pressured me into signing a premarital agreement and he tore up multiple copies of the agreement in front of me. Since the day he tore up the agreements, we both understood that there was no premarital agreement, and that it was null and void.”
However, sources close to Dr. Dre allege that the Beats Electronics founder has never expressed his shame over the prenup and allege that he never tore up and said the prenup was invalid. The sources also allege that Dr.Dre is willing to pay spousal support and pay for Nicole Young’s expenses.
We recently reported that the couple does have a prenup and that Dr.Dre says that the couple has been separated since March 27. The music mogul reportedly wants the terms of the prenup to determine how they will divvy up the property they obtained while married. Dr. Dre and Nicole have two adult children together–a 23-year-old son named Truice and a 19-year-old daughter named Truly–so there will be no need to discuss child support.
In the filing, Nicole cited ‘irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the divorce when she filed for divorce on June 29. The two were married for 24 years. Her filing says she requested property distribution as well as spousal support, but it did not list the existence of a prenup.
Dr. Dre has made a significant fortune over the years since he was part of the controversial rap group N.W.A. His empire includes a successful creation of the Beats by Dr. Dre, which was eventually purchased by Apple in 2014 for $3 billion along with the Beats Electronics brand itself. Reportedly, the founder of the Aftermath Entertainment label which sported top rap acts like Eminem and 50 Cent at one time, has a net worth of $800 million. He was the top-earning musician in the 2010s decade.
