Barack & Michelle Obama Join Broadway Revival Of ‘Proof As Co-Producers For Limited Run Starring Ayo Edebiri & Don Cheadle
Barack and Michelle Obama are expanding their storytelling empire into the theater world, signing on as co-producers for Broadway’s upcoming revival of “Proof,” starring Ayo Edebiri and Don Cheadle.
The production, based on David Auburn’s Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning play, will begin a strictly limited 16-week run at the Booth Theatre starting Tuesday, March 31, with opening night set for Thursday, April 16. The project marks the Broadway debut of the Obamas’ media company, Higher Ground.
“To bring this landmark play back to Broadway with Ayo, Don, Tommy, and Mike at the helm is an extraordinary privilege, and we couldn’t be more proud to be part of this production,” the Obamas said in a statement. “‘Proof’ is exactly the kind of story Higher Ground was built to champion. A play that asks profound questions about brilliance, doubt, and what we inherit from the people we love most.”
Producers Mike Bosner and Thomas Kail added, “We’re thrilled to welcome Higher Ground as partners on ‘Proof’ and to have their creative vision and passion behind this production.”
