Update: Tom Brady Unhappy w/ How Netflix Roast Affected His Children: ‘I Wouldn’t Do That Again’

Update: (May 14, 2024): As the old saying goes, “Hindsight is 20/20.”

As previously reported, some felt the jokes said during Netflix’s live special “The Roast of Tom Brady” (which aired on May 5) should have only focused on the retired NFLer and excluded jabs made at his ex-wife, supermodel Gisele Bündchen. However, others felt the jokes about Brady’s loved ones were okay as everything should be on the table when it comes to a roasting session.

Brady finally weighed in on his thoughts during a recent interview with The Pivot Podcast, revealing he has regrets about the comedy night. He said,

“I liked when the jokes were about me. I thought they were so fun. I didn’t like the way they affected my kids. It’s the hardest part about…like the bittersweet aspect of when you do something that you think is one way and then all of a sudden you realize I wouldn’t do that again because of the way that it affected actually the people that I care about the most in the world.”

He continued,

“It makes you in some ways a better parent going through it. Sometimes you’re naive. You don’t know. When I signed up for that…I love when people are making fun of me. I always said when I was going through the Deflategate stuff that I watched three things on TV: Premiere League soccer, golf and comedy shows. Every time I turned on SportsCenter it was like, are you f*cking kidding me? I just want to laugh. I wanted to do the roast because Jeff Ross became somebody I knew. But you don’t see the full picture all the time.”

Brady added,

“I’m going to be a better parent as I go forward because of it. At the same time, I’m happy everyone who was there had a lot of fun. If we’re not laughing about things, we’re crying. We should have more fun. What do we love? We love laughing in the locker room. Let’s do more of that and love each other and celebrate other people’s success.”

Original Story: (May 7, 2024): “The View’s” Ana Navarro, Sunny Hostin, and Alyssa Farah Griffin had some stark commentary following the jokes that were told about Tom Brady’s ex-wife, supermodel Gisele Bündchen, during the Netflix live special “The Roast of Tom Brady” on Sunday (May 5th).

Former New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, 46, took part in the live Netflix comedy special where he was the subject of comedic roasts by his former teammates and comedians Kevin Hart, Jeff Ross, and Nikki Glaser.

Many jokes during the event targeted Gisele Bündchen, who was married to Tom Brady for 13 years before they divorced in 2022, and her new boyfriend, jiu-jitsu instructor Joaquim Valente.

Kevin Hart joked,

“I mean Jesus Christ, Tom. One of the smartest quarterbacks ever played a game. How did you not see this coming? Eight f***ing karate classes a day… Eight karate classes a day and she’s still a white belt. F*** Tom. The only bruises she had were on her *ss. everybody should have known it.”

Jeff Ross remarked that Brady was the man and said,

“with so many rings he could melt them down and forge a sword to go on a quest to get Gisele back from that jiu-jitsu teacher.”

Nikki Glaser also didn’t hold back when it came to addressing Bündchen.

“You have seven rings. Well, eight now that Gisele gave hers back … The only thing dumber than Brady agreeing to do this roast was telling Bündchen to do jiu-jitsu.”

Sunday night’s jokes referenced rumors about an affair between Gisele Bündchen and Joaquim Valente during her marriage to Brady, but all such allegations were previously denied.

On Monday’s (May 6) episode of “The View,” Whoopi Goldberg asked the panel for their thoughts on the jokes made about Tom Brady’s ex-wife.

Political commentator Ana Navarro, 52, responded:

“If I were getting paid what he was probably getting paid – he was an executive producer – I’d laugh at all sorts of things … but, I think the person who wasn’t getting paid and ended up being part of this roast was Gisele, and I think that’s a bad, lame thing to do to your ex-wife and mother to your children … Leave Gisele the hell alone. Go make your money elsewhere.”

Legal expert Sunny Hostin, 55, remarked:

“I love comedy and I like to laugh, but not at people’s expense. That makes me uncomfortable.”

Former Trump aide Alyssa Farrah Griffin, 35, added,

“It felt a little verging on mean spirited.”

Bündchen may share similar sentiments, as it’s now being reported that the 43-year-old model felt “deeply disappointed by the disrespectful portrayal of her family” during the roast. Reports emphasized that Bündchen’s priority remains supporting her children, who were impacted by the content of the show.

The controversy surrounding the roast comes days after body cam footage emerged from a recent traffic stop in Surfside, Florida (April 25), where Bündchen tearfully expressed her distress to the officer about aggressive paparazzi trailing her. Despite the officer’s advice to file a police report, Gisele remained unsettled, breaking down in tears as she voiced her concerns.

Do you agree with the ladies of “The View” that things went too far during Tom Brady’s roast? Let us know in the comments!
