Update: Nicki Minaj’s 2nd Amsterdam Tour Stop Canceled After Her Arrest

Update (May 31, 2024): Nicki Minaj won’t be gracing the stage in Amsterdam after all. The rap star was arrested in the country ahead of her show last week after local authorities alleged marijuana was found in her luggage, forcing her to axe the concert. Although she was released shortly after and scheduled to perform for a second show on Sunday (June 2), it has now been canceled.

Dutch promoter Mojo announced the news on its website Friday (May 31) in a statement:

“Due to the events of last week, the Nicki Minaj show on Sunday, 2nd June at Ziggo Dome, Amsterdam will no longer be taking place. Tickets will be refunded at the point of sale.”
As of publication, Nicki Minaj has not publicly addressed the cancelation.

Original Story (May 26, 2024):Rap star Nicki Minaj suggested that her recent arrest in Amsterdam was the result of racial profiling and people plotting against her.

The 41-year-old shared a series of Tweets to her X account (formerly Twitter), making a number of accusations against the police, and referenced singer Ari Lennox’s previous arrest there in the process.

Yesterday (Saturday May 25th), Nicki Minaj, real name Onika Tanya Miraj, went live on Instagram in the moments before Amsterdam authorities put her in a police van. The “FTCU” artist was leaving the Netherlands city headed to her sold out show in Manchester on her Pink Friday 2 tour, when authorities allegedly claimed they needed to search her bags. In simultaneous tweets that Nicki Minaj uploaded as the situation unfolded, she wrote:

“They took my luggage & when I asked where it is they said it’s on the plane. It couldn’t have been, I just pulled up.”

She added in a subsequent post:

“I never gave them my bags. They’re refusing to let me see my own bags.”

Minaj continued, going on to surmise that her former management is likely involved and wants to ruin her tour as she recently laid people off for stealing from her. She added:

“They’re being paid big money to try to sabotage my tour b/c soooooo many ppl are mad that it’s this successful & they can’t eat off me. They got caught stealing money from my travel/jets. Got fired. Got mad. Etc.”

And followed up with:

“They try to make me book another jet every time. All b/c I fired mngmnt who I found out for years were adding on 30-50K on my jet & pocketing it. I fired a tour mngr recently who was doing the same thing & mad he got the boot. Their goal is to make me late, & to pocket 40K”

The New York native went on to further reiterate claims that someone wanted to prevent her next show from happening, stating that police then told they found marijuana pre-rolls that had to be weighed and that they had to wait for the appropriate officials to arrive. As Minaj noted, cannabis is in fact legal in the Amsterdam, though there are regulations around traveling. The musician stated that authorities were made aware the pre-rolls belonged to her security, though she was ultimately arrested.

When asked about the situation, Amsterdam authorities reportedly confirmed they arrested a 41-year-old American woman with “soft drugs”, updating hours later that she was given a “monetary fine” and “released on suspicion of exporting soft drugs.”

Minaj expressed her disappointment over the arrest and missing the show in later messages posted to X. The rapper encouraged some to visit the hotel she was staying at and shared potential dates for the show’s rescheduling. She also suggested the incident was the result of racial profiling, and shared coverage of R&B singer Ari Lennox’s detainment in Amsterdam back in 2021, where she accused the police of racial profiling and claimed that she was being silenced from speaking about it.

Comparing the situations, Minaj quoted an article that stated Lennox was “full of emotions” at the time of her arrest, adding:

“She was arrested b/c she was full of emotions in AmsterDAM. Hmmmmm interesting. I didn’t know this was a “thing” there. Who spoke up for her? Could’ve easily been another Sandra Bland incident. I’m so happy she made it out alive & well.”

Minaj also shared her intentions to seek legal ramifications over the situation.
