‘RHOP’ Alum Monique Samuels Explains Why She Didn’t Join ‘Traitors,’ Claims Producers Were ‘Shady’ & Wanted To Also Cast Candiace Dillard Bassett

Monique Samuels is not here for any kind of setup!

The Real Housewives of Potomac alum recently shared during an Instagram live stream why she decided not to join the popular reality competition show Traitors for Season 3. She began by mentioning that she was initially “really excited” and considered the opportunity. However, things quickly took a left turn as she claimed the show’s producers were dragging their feet during contract negotiations.

Monique Samuels stated,

“We started talking numbers. For me to go away for that period of time, I need to make sure the money is good. That was one concern.”

She continued,

“Then, with reality TV stuff, it’s always last minute. They act like you don’t have a life outside of whatever it is they’re trying to do.”

Monique Samuels explained the producers were “taking too long” to finalize everything and felt that if they didn’t follow up soon with a better offer, she would have to pass on the gig.

Along with contract negotiations, she also mentioned that her manager informed her that her former RHOP castmate, Candiace Dillard Bassett, was also in talks to join Traitors.

Samuels elaborated,

“On the backend, I heard about some shady stuff that was going on. Apparently, they were trying to put me and Candiace from RHOP on Traitors at the same time. Why would you try to take something from a totally different show and try to make it something that could potentially be very nasty?”

Monique concluded,

“I found out all of the shady shenanigans that were also going on behind the scenes … and they couldn’t afford me. So I was like, ‘I’m not doing this!’ … Everyone knows that that situation [between me and Candiace] is very sensitive … You ain’t gonna be doing us black queens like that!”

Monique Samuels is likely referring to an incident that occurred during Season 5 of RHOP, where she and Candiace Dillard had a physical altercation at a cast event.

The altercation became a central storyline, sparking legal consequences and significant tension among the cast. Monique departed shortly after the conclusion of that season.

In the following years, Monique tried her hand at reality TV once more, starring in OWN’s Love & Marriage: DC. Soon after, she also joined The Good Morning Show as a host on WPGC 95.5.

After she departed from Love & Marriage, Monique Samuels and her husband, former NFL star Chris Samuels, separated, finalizing their divorce on September 25, 2023.

Candiace Dillard Bassett also decided to opt out of Season 3 of Traitors. She recently announced that she’s pregnant with her first child with her husband, Chris Bassett, following her exit from Potomac after Season 8.

As for the final casting for Season 3 of Traitors, Monique and Candiace’s former castmate Robyn Dixon will be starring in the Peacock series along with Tom Sandoval, Chanel Ayan, Chrishell Stause, Bob The Drag Queen, and others.
