Actor Bill Cobbs Has Died At Age 90
Veteran Hollywood actor Bill Cobbs, known for his roles in Demolition Man, That Thing You Do! and Air Bud, has passed away at the age of 90.
Bill Cobbs died peacefully at his home in California on Tuesday, June 25, his brother Thomas Cobbs confirmed on Facebook, writing:
“We are saddened to share the passing of Bill Cobbs. On Tuesday, June 25, Bill passed away peacefully at his home in California. A beloved partner, big brother, uncle, surrogate parent, godfather and friend, Bill recently and happily celebrated his 90th birthday surrounded by cherished loved ones. As a family we are comforted knowing Bill has found peace and eternal rest with his Heavenly Father. We ask for your prayers and encouragement during this time.”
Several celebrities and colleagues took to social media to express their condolences and share their memories of Bill Cobbs.
Wendell Pierce honored Cobbs on X (formerly Twitter), stating,
“Days after his 90th Birthday, Bill Cobbs died today. A father figure, a griot, an iconic artist, that mentored me by the way he led his life as an actor. He played my father twice: in ‘I’ll Fly Away’ & ‘The Gregory Hines Show.’ Each time imparting wisdom with a word of encouragement.”
Actor Wesley Snipes also paid tribute to Cobbs with a tweet:

Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Cobbs had a career spanning five decades with nearly 200 film and TV credits. He moved to New York City in 1970 to pursue acting and made his movie debut in 1974’s The Taking of Pelham One Two Three. He gained widespread recognition for his role as Devaney in the 1992 thriller The Bodyguard, alongside Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner. Cobbs also played Reginald in the Night at the Museum films, sharing the screen with Dick Van Dyke and Mickey Rooney.
