Gospel Singer Kim Burrell Apologizes To The LGBTQ Community For Previous Remarks: ‘We Must Embrace All Of God’s People’
It looks like the tide has turned, as Kim Burrell has apologized to the LGBTQ+ community.
The 51-year-old gospel singer took the stage at the Stellar Awards over the weekend to accept the Aretha Franklin Icon Award.
During her speech, Kim Burrell surprised many by offering an apology to the LGBTQ+ community, stating that she and others must embrace all of God’s people:
“I want to apologize to the LGBTQ community. Let’s give them a great big round of applause. We want them to have strength and to sincerely know that we must all do the work to embrace all of God’s people and show forth His love to everyone.”
She continued,
“I hope that this award and this moment can be the beginning of a bridge-building and listening to each other as we follow peace with all man and develop the character of God, which requires seeing God.”

In 2017, Kim Burrell faced backlash after a homophobic sermon surfaced online. In the sermon, she called homosexuality perverted and said,
“Anybody in this room who’s dealing with the homosexual spirit, beg God to free you. Play with it in 2017; you’ll die from it.”
Back then, Burrell doubled down on her comments in a video posted to social media, saying:
“To every person that is dealing with the homosexual spirit, I love you because God loves you, but God hates the sin in you and me.”
Over the years, Kim Burrell has made a series of other controversial comments from the pulpit, including statements about “broke people” and “walking by faith without a mask and no vaccine” amid the COVID-19 aftermath.
