Kevin Hart Understands Tom Brady’s Roast Regrets, But Says Comedy Special Was ‘Necessary’ For ‘Our Climate Of Sensitivity’
“To roast or not to roast—that is the question”
During a recent interview with sports journalist Taylor Rooks, Kevin Hart, who hosted the May 5 The Roast of Tom Brady Netflix special, weighed in on what the retired NFLer had to say about the viral event. As previously reported, following the comedy special, Tom Brady shared that he regrets how the jokes centered around aspects of his entire life, including his family and loved ones, and not just him alone. In part, he expressed,
“I liked when the jokes were about me. I thought they were so fun. I didn’t like the way they affected my kids. It’s the hardest part about…like the bittersweet aspect of when you do something that you think is one way and then all of a sudden you realize I wouldn’t do that again because of the way that it affected actually the people that I care about the most in the world.”
When asked about his feelings when hearing Tom Brady has second thoughts about the roast seen around the world, Kevin Hart said,
“When he says he regretted doing it … I think what he’s referring to is saying, ‘I could have tapered it a little differently, or [had] a conversation pre-, of like, ‘Guys, let’s go and do this, but let’s not touch this or this. I think like, the idea of going all in and just saying, ‘F*ck it, I don’t care, because I know the world would love to see me being on the receiving end of sh*t, because I’m Tom Brady, and I’ve been at the highest stage all my life,’ I think it was that.”

Highlighting how the roast had a positive impact on the world of comedy, Kevin Hart continued,
“What it did for comedy, and our climate of sensitivity, I think was necessary and valuable.”
He added,
“Although I can side with Tom and see where he’s coming from, and just him wanting to protect the idea of family and the conversation attached to that. That’s probably where that’s coming from. I’m not privy to what he dealt with after, so I know his response and saying something about it was a result of possibly that. But that thing made people comfortable with the concept of a joke being a joke.”
Tom Brady isn’t the only celeb who has signed up to be roasted by their peers. Some other famous people who have been subjected to a roast over the years include Pamela Anderson, Flavor Flav, Donald Trump, and Justin Bieber.
