Jessica Simpson Sets Record Straight On Sobriety After Social Media User Demands She ‘Stop Drinking’

Jessica Simpson recently set the record straight with an Instagram critic who suggested she stop drinking, despite her being sober for nearly seven years.

On Monday, August 5, the 44-year-old singer posted a black-and-white photo of her 11-year-old son, Ace Knute Johnson, on Instagram.

One IG user wrote under the post,

“STOP DRINKING!”

The remark was made with no apparent context, prompting a swift response from the singer.

Jessica Simpson fired back, saying,

“I haven’t wanted or touched alcohol since October 2017 and it has been the best decision I’ve made for myself and for my family. Thank you for your concern, but you have me very misunderstood. Sending love your way.”

The comment led to a quick apology from the critic who replied,

“I’m so happy to hear that!! Sorry for my misunderstanding. Sending love to you as well.”

This exchange comes after Jessica Simpson marked six years of sobriety last year with a revealing photo from a low point in her life. She previously described her decision to quit drinking as a turning point, stating,

“I had so much self discovery to unlock and explore. I knew in this very moment I would allow myself to take back my light, show victory over my internal battle of self respect, and brave this world with piercing clarity.”

She continued,

“I wanted to feel the pain so I could carry it like a badge of honor … I wanted to live as a leader does and break cycles to advance forward- never looking back with regret and remorse over any choice I have made and would make for the rest of my time here within this beautiful world.”

Simpson, who lost 100 pounds since becoming sober, detailed how her sobriety restored her self-respect and clarity. In her 2020 memoir, Open Book, she explained that her struggles with alcohol and pills were linked to anxiety and past traumas.
