Omarion Says 3-Year Celibacy Journey Allowed Him To ‘Step Out Of This World Of Being A Sex Symbol’
R&B veteran Omarion is reflecting on his 3-year journey being celibate.
The former B2K member spoke about how taking control of his sex life has positively impacted him as a whole and opened up about deciding to abstain from sex in the first place.

Omarion, 39, stated during a recent interview on the Know Thyself podcast:
“When I decided to become celibate, it was because I was searching for something more.”
Noting that the transition in his life was “hard” for some to understand, he continued:
“A lot of people be like ‘Oh he young he on top of the world… he just put out a #1 album, you ain’t out here f***ing these h**s?’ You know what I’m saying? I’m like, ‘Nah…it’s more to life than that.”

Going on, Omarion shared that being sexually inactive gave him a new perspective, as it was a vast change from the “sex symbol” persona he’s been carrying since the start of his music career in 1999.
“It allowed me to kind of step out of this world of being a sex symbol…In hindsight, it was preparing my for my contribution to music. I just found myself in that position of wanting to understand my energy, give myself time to grow.”
He furthered:
“I knew that if I could control two areas of my life, which was food and the urge for sex, then nothing could stop me.”
While Omarion is relatively lowkey about his love life these days, the singer famously dated model turned reality star Apryl Jones from 2013 to 2016, they share children Megaa and A’mei. The former couple’s relationship was chronicled in the first two seasons of Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood before they ultimately called it quits.

During the interview, Omarion also shared the inspiration he felt upon learning that rock star Lenny Kravitz has been celibate longer than he has. As we recently covered, hip-hop veteran Ice Cube ridiculed the “Fly Away” singer, calling his decision to stop having sex “weird.”
