Tyrese Clarifies Past Claims That Terrence Howard Was Chosen For Roles Over Him Due To Colorism: ‘That Man Did Not Take One Role From Me’

Tyrese Gibson is setting the record straight.

In a recent appearance on Club Shay Shay with Shannon Sharpe, the actor and singer clarified previous comments about Terrence Howard allegedly taking roles from him due to colorism. Tyrese dismissed those claims as a “misunderstanding,” asserting that his words had been twisted.

When Shannon Sharpe pressed further, Tyrese responded with a mix of humor and frustration:

“I never said that, you twisted my words. I got no problem with that light skin man. I ain’t clearing up s***.”

Tyrese added,

“I’m not talking about that Black man, and I don’t want my words to be twisted and misunderstood.”

The 45-year-old Fast & Furious star emphasized that his previous comments were not about Terrence Howard specifically but rather about the broader issue of colorism in Hollywood:

“That man did not take one role from me. I said, specifically, that long before it was cool to be blue-black in Hollywood, everybody light skin or on the spectrum had way more opportunities going towards them than us. I never said he took one specific role from me. They never said, ‘Tyrese or Terrence.’”

Tyrese’s clarification comes after his 2021 remarks in which he mentioned losing roles to Terrence Howard due to his lighter complexion. In that interview, he expressed frustration over being passed over for roles, saying,

“Terrence Howard has no idea how many roles that I was about to book and they went with him because he’s the lighter-skinned Black man with the green eyes.”

Alongside his appearance on Club Shay Shay, Tyrese Gibson’s recent public outbursts have been drawing attention. In a recent interview on The Breakfast Club, he became visibly emotional while discussing the need for men to receive emotional support.

Tyrese also appeared reflective as he revealed his stress over his ex-wife’s attempt to increase child support payments, which she aired publicly on social media.
