50 Cent Explains Why He Passed On Signing Desiigner Amid The Success Of His Breakout Song ‘Panda’
50 Cent reveals why he passed on signing Desiigner despite his hit debut single.
In a recent episode of Million Dollaz Worth of Game, 50 Cent opened up about his decision to pass on signing rapper Desiigner, who had a major hit with Panda.

During his conversation with Gillie Da Kid and Wallo, 50 Cent recounted meeting Desiigner before he signed with Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music label:
“I met with him before he did the deal with Kanye and them.”
However, 50 Cent’s interest diminished when he asked Desiigner to play other music he had been working on:
“I had him at the office. I was like, ‘Yo, let me hear the other records you got.’ And he’s like… ‘That’s it.’ … And the s*** was so hot that he had, I was struggling. But I was like, ‘Nah, I can’t give that n**** that money. Let them give him whatever the f*** they gonna give him.’”
50 Cent’s decision to pass on Desiigner appears justified as the New York native has struggled to match the success of Panda, which topped the Billboard Hot 100 in 2016 and became certified five times platinum.

Desiigner eventually parted ways with G.O.O.D. Music and Def Jam in 2019 after expressing that the label was holding him back from releasing music.

In addition to issues with his former label, Desiigner has had some run-ins with the law, including a notable incident on an airplane where he was caught masturbating mid-flight.

While Desiigner has made attempts to revive his career, including a recent appearance on Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign’s Vultures 2, he has yet to regain the spotlight he once commanded.
