Sade Makes Her Musical Return w/ New Single ‘Young Lion’ In Tribute To Transgender Son
Sade returns to music with a powerful tribute to her transgender son, and fans are all in.
On Wednesday (Sept. 4), the iconic Grammy Award-winning singer announced the release of her first new single in years, titled “Young Lion”.
The track, a heartfelt tribute to her transgender son Izaak Theo Abu, will be featured on the benefit album Transa, scheduled for release on Nov. 22.
Transa is a unique project raising awareness and support for trans and nonbinary artists. The album will include 46 songs from over 100 artists, including exclusive tracks and covers from other notable names such as Sam Smith and André 3000. The album is divided into eight chapters, each representing a stripe of the rainbow Pride flag.

Dust Reid, one of the creators behind Transa, explained the project’s mission:
“We started talking about all the gifts that trans artists have been giving to the world, and wanted to create a Red Hot project that centered and celebrated those gifts. We hoped to create a narrative that positions trans and non-binary people as leaders in our society insofar as the deep inner work they do to affirm who they are in our current climate.”
Sade’s contribution to the album marks her first release since 2018 when she dropped “Flower of the Universe” for the A Wrinkle in Time soundtrack and “The Big Unknown” for the movie Widows.
Fans are excited about new music from Sade, and social media is filled with positive reactions to her support of the trans community.
One Instagram user commented:
“Just when I thought I couldn’t love you more! So amazing to see you advocating for trans people.”
Another wrote:
“Thank you Sade for your passion and compassion for your son and what’s really important. Love you even more!”
And a third simply said:
