Angel Reese Speaks On Rumored Fallout w/ Former LSU Teammate Flau’jae Johnson: ‘We Aren’t As Close & It Happens’
Sometimes people grow apart.
For most of her time at LSU, Angel Reese seemed inseparable from her then-teammate Flau’jae Johnson. The two athletes were often spotted together and frequently spoke about their close bond. However, during Angel Reese’s final year playing college basketball, rumors surfaced that her mother was beefing with Flau’jae Johnson’s mom. The alleged drama caught the public’s attention in November, around the time Angel Reese was temporarily benched.
Amid Reese’s brief hiatus from the LSU Women’s Basketball Team, her mom and Flau’jae Johnson’s mom seemingly took jabs at one another online, which many felt played a hand in straining their daughter’s friendship.

The once best friends haven’t been spotted in public together in a while and during the debut episode of her podcast, Unapologetically Angel, Reese explained why.
“I still support Flau’jae. We aren’t as close as we used to be. There’s no hard feelings or anything.”
The WNBA star continued,
“People always expect us to still be posting each other and stuff like that, but we aren’t as close and it happens.”
She added,
“You don’t have the best relationships with everybody, and don’t always continue relationships with people. So I wish her the best always, I’m always going to support her. … There’s no love lost but we aren’t as close as we used to be.”

Reese was selected 7th in the 2024 WNBA draft by the Chicago Sky. Johnson is still in college and plays for LSU.
