Russell Simmons Failed To Pay $3 Million Settlement To 3 Women, Including 1 Who Accused Him Of Sexual Assault
Russell Simmons has yet to make good on a $3 million settlement he agreed to pay to three women for “alleged personal, physical injuries and sickness.”
He was supposed to pay $1,265,000 each to journalist Sil Lai Abrams, who accused him of raping her in 1994, and Sherri Abernathy. He also agreed to pay Wendy Carolina Franco $515,000.
According to Variety, he agreed to make the payments by Oct. 1 but failed to do so.
The settlement was entered in the New York County Supreme Court in November 2023, with Simmons including a confession of judgment.
If the settlement defaults, the victims will receive an expedited means to get the judgments in New York State court to begin collecting.
It’s not clear what led to the parties reaching the settlement.
