St. Lunatics Members Distance Themselves From Royalties Lawsuit Against Nelly
St.Lunatics members Murphy Lee, Kyjuan, and City Spud are making it clear they want nothing to do with the lawsuit filed against Nelly.
Weeks after being named alongside fellow bandmate Ali in a lawsuit against Nelly for allegedly cutting them out of royalties from his breakout album Country Grammar, the trio is now requesting to be removed from the case entirely.
In a letter from Nelly’s attorney, N. Scott Rosenblum, he states that the three men
“informed me that they did not authorize you to include them as plaintiffs. They are hereby demanding you remove their names forthwith. Failure to do so will cause them to explore any and all legal remedies available to them.”
This unexpected turn of events follows a recent performance where all three men joined Nelly on stage at the American Music Awards, which seemed to hint at a possible reconciliation.
The withdrawal leaves Ali as the sole remaining plaintiff, and his attorney, Gail M. Walton, did not immediately respond for comment.
The lawsuit initially alleged that Nelly “manipulated” his former bandmates into believing they would be compensated for their contributions to the album, which topped the Billboard 200 for five weeks back in 2000. However, the complaint revealed that the group discovered years later he “had no intention of providing the plaintiffs with any such credit or recognition.”
While it’s a relief to see things trending toward a more peaceful outcome, we’ll be watching closely to see how this lawsuit unfolds. ?
