X Users Frustrated w/ Platforms New Block Feature Guidelines: ‘Removing It Entirely Is Dangerous’
Elon Musk is currently being slammed on his social media site X (formerly Twitter) over changes coming to the platform’s block feature. If you’ve been on the app recently, you probably received a notification informing you that “Block is changing soon.”
According to the notification, under the new update:
“If your posts are set to public, accounts you have blocked will be able to view them, but they will not be able to engage. For more control over who can see your posts, you can still protect your account.”

Attempting to justify the change, X explained,
“Today, block can be used by users to share and hide harmful or private information about those they’ve blocked. Users will be able to see if such behavior occurs with this update, allowing for greater transparency.”

However, many aren’t buying the explanation and have called Elon Musk out for potentially putting people in danger. One person wrote,
“For my safety, if they remove blocking, I’ll have no choice but to stop using Twitter as usual. What that f&cking village idiot who owns this app fails to grasp is women face real world threats for having a voice. Blocking helps slightly but removing it entirely is dangerous.”

Another said,
“Wait, let me get this straight. You made Likes private, so no one can see who likes a tweet… but you think people who are blocked should still be able to see the tweets of the person who blocked them? How does that make any sense at all?”

Others pointed out the forthcoming update could violate the Terms of Service required for an app to be available in the Apple app store. Despite the pushback, it seems Elon Musk is moving forward with the update.
