Dame Dash Explains Aaliyah’s Influence On His Decision To Appear In R. Kelly & Jay-Z’s ‘Fiesta’ Video
Dame Dash is facing mixed reactions after revealing how Aaliyah influenced his decision to appear in R. Kelly and Jay-Z’s “Fiesta (Remix)” video from 2001, despite the complicated history surrounding Kelly.
In a recent clip shared on his IG page, Dame Dash addressed why he chose to participate in the video despite the industry’s knowledge about R. Kelly. He shared,
“When Jay was still doing business with R. Kelly, I told Aaliyah, ‘Yo, they’re still doing projects and shooting videos. I don’t wanna go to the video.’”
According to Dame Dash, Aaliyah responded,
“I don’t want to start any trouble. Just don’t be in any scenes with him and don’t take any pictures with him.”
Dame further clarified,
“When Jay chose to keep working with R. Kelly, I told Aaliyah. Her response was clear—she just wanted to heal, avoid any drama, and move forward in peace. So when it came to the Fiesta video, I made sure I wasn’t in any scenes or photos with R. Kelly. I stayed in the trailer unless my shots with Jay were being filmed. That’s the truth.”
The reactions to this story have been mixed. One commenter wrote,
“But you’re still in the video! Terrible explanation. You’re either on board, or you’re not.”
Meanwhile, another praised his support for Aaliyah, stating,
“Thank you for being supportive of her. After what she went through, I know that your actions made her feel safe and supported. Don’t listen to the negative people.”
In light of these revelations, Aaliyah’s relationship with R. Kelly remains controversial. It started when she was just a teenager, leading to an illegal marriage in 1994. By 2000, Aaliyah and Dame were in a committed relationship until her tragic passing in August 2001.
