Keke Palmer Reveals Racist Remark Made By ‘Scream Queens’ Co-Star
Keke Palmer is opening up about a disturbing experience she faced on the set of Scream Queens, sharing in her new book that a white cast member—whom she calls “Brenda”—made a racist remark to her.
According to Keke Palmer, Brenda had been in a dispute with another colleague on set, and when Keke Palmer tried to defuse the situation, Brenda responded,
“Keke, literally, just don’t. Who do you think you are? Martin F****** Luther King?”
Keke says she chose not to reveal the actor’s name, explaining,
“It was such a weighted thing that she said, but I didn’t allow that weight to be projected on me, because I know who I am. I’m not no victim. That’s not my storyline, sweetie. I don’t care what her ass said. If I allow what she said to cripple me, then she would.”
Keke credits her resilience to lessons from her childhood when, as the only Black child in her class, she often faced bullying and relied on her parents’ advice to stand strong against microaggressions.
