Sleeping In Socks Could Help You Fall Asleep Faster & Sleep Longer, Experts Say
If you’re usually against wearing socks to bed, experts say you might want to give it a try!
Research suggests that the cozy benefits of wearing socks while sleeping could help you fall asleep faster, wake up less, and sleep longer throughout the night.
A study published in the Journal of Physiological Anthropology found that participants who wore socks fell asleep 7 minutes faster, slept 32 minutes longer, and woke up fewer times than those who didn’t. How? It all comes down to body temperature!

The study notes that wearing socks warms your skin, causing blood vessels to expand. This lets heat escape, keeping your core temperature low—a key factor for better sleep.
In fact, this drop in core temperature triggers the release of melatonin, your body’s natural sleep hormone. And a bonus tip: experts recommend keeping your bedroom between 68–72°F (or a few degrees cooler) for the ultimate sleep environment.
For the best sock sleeping experience, experts say you should opt for a clean pair with breathable fabrics like cotton, bamboo, or linen—no sweaty day-old socks allowed! The study also suggests that a warm foot soak before bed can mimic the same effect.
Will you be trying the socks while sleeping hack this week, or is it a hard no for you? Share your thoughts in the comments! ?
