‘Insecure’ Star Natasha Rothwell ‘Shocked’ & ‘Heartbroken’ As Hulu Cancels Her Comedy Show ‘How To Die Alone’ After One Season
Actress Natasha Rothwell is speaking out following the cancellation of her comedy series “How to Die Alone” after just one season on Hulu.
Rothwell, who created and starred in the show—which premiered in September 2024—shared her disappointment, saying she is “shocked, heartbroken, and baffled.” In a statement, she wrote:
“I am shocked, heartbroken, and frankly, baffled that Onyx has decided not to move forward with a second season of How to Die Alone. This is a tough reality to accept because the show is an undeniable critical, creative, and award-winning success.”
She continued:
“This show took me eight years to bring to life, and if there’s one thing I’ve learned in that time, it’s resilience. I’m not giving up. My team and I are committed to finding How to Die Alone a new home because stories like this matter.”

Produced under Onyx Collective, the comedy series received praise for its sharp writing, cultural significance, and standout performances—earning a 91% Rotten Tomatoes score and multiple award nominations.
Despite the critical acclaim, reports suggest that low viewership numbers led to its cancellation. However, Rothwell isn’t giving up—the “Insecure” star confirmed she’s actively seeking a new platform for the show, emphasizing that true representation goes beyond visibility and must be protected from erasure. ??
“How to Die Alone” follows Mel (Rothwell), a struggling JFK Airport employee who, after a near-death experience, embarks on a journey to start truly living. The cast also included Conrad Ricamora, Jocko Sims, and KeiLyn Durrel Jones.
Are you disappointed that Hulu pulled the plug on the show?
