Family Of Teen Accused Of Fatally St@bbing Fellow Track Runner Raises Over $170K For Legal Defense

The family of 17-year-old Karmelo Anthony is receiving major support online as he faces a m*rder charge in the fatal st@bbing of fellow track runner Austin Metcalf.

Anthony was charged after allegedly st@bbing Metcalf during a track meet at Kuykendall Stadium in Frisco, Texas, on April 2. According to an eyewitness, the incident started when Austin Metcalf asked Karmelo Anthony to move from under a team tent. Anthony allegedly warned,

“Touch me and see what happens.”

When Metcalf tried to move him, Anthony pulled a knife from his bag, allegedly st@bbed him in the chest, and ran. Metcalf was pronounced de@d at the hospital.

Police say Anthony told them, “I was protecting myself,” while his attorney, Deric Walpole, told news outlets,

“I know that my client said it was self-defense. I don’t have any reason to disbelieve that.”

Anthony’s family has since launched a support fund, calling the accusations “false, unjust and harmful,” and adding, “Your prayers and assistance mean more to us now more than ever.”

The campaign has raised over $170,000 toward a $200,000 goal. Meanwhile, Metcalf’s family has raised nearly $250,000 on GoFundMe.
