Jaleel White Reveals He Was Served Custody Papers While Filming ‘Dancing with the Stars’
Jaleel White opened up about the emotional turmoil he faced while competing on “Dancing With the Stars” in 2012, revealing on “Sherri” that he was in the midst of a custody battle over his daughter Samaya.
“I had a process server serve me right before I danced week two,” he recalled. “We had a whole calamity at my dressing room. And I got lower scores week two.”
Jaleel White said he struggled with press expectations during “crazy interviews,” explaining, “I ain’t worried about the dancing. I got other stuff I’m dealing with.”
But producers told him, “That’s not what people want to hear.” He likened the pressure to “The Hunger Games” but credited his dance partner, Kym Herjavec, with helping him cope.
“I was really dancing for my life,” he said. During that time, his daughter was relocated 70 miles away.
