Singer Lisa’s Rosa Parks Met Gala Look Was Designed By Pharrell Williams: ‘She Was Wearing A Piece Of Art’
BLACKPINK’s Lisa stirred controversy at the Met Gala for wearing underwear featuring Rosa Parks’ face—but the concept came from none other than Pharrell Williams. In a clip from the event, Pharrell Williams, who co-chaired the Gala and serves as Louis Vuitton’s creative director, explained that Lisa’s outfit embodied the night’s theme: “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.”
The ensemble honored dandyism in Black culture and was crafted to celebrate its lasting influence. “She wasn’t just dressed up,” Pharrell said, “she was wearing a piece of art.”
The underwear, embroidered by renowned Black artist Henry Taylor, was part of a larger tribute to the cultural icons who paved the way.
Considering how much the world borrows from [Black culture],” Pharrell Williams emphasized, the look had deeper meaning.
So no, Lisa didn’t “just slap on some controversial undies”—her outfit was a carefully curated statement, brought to life by leading Black creatives, with Lisa simply serving as the canvas.
