‘NYPD Blue’ Actor Dwyane Adway Casts Doubt On Daughter’s Suicide, Sues Her Ex-Boyfriend For Wrongful Death

Actor Dwyane Adway, known for his roles in NYPD Blue and CSI: Miami, is taking legal action over the 2024 death of his daughter, Daelena Mackay.

In a new lawsuit filed on Monday (May 19) in Los Angeles, Adway accuses Daelena’s ex-boyfriend, Makar Kirikov, of playing a role in her death. He also claims the LAPD failed to properly investigate the circumstances. The suit names the City and County of Los Angeles as well, citing negligence and civil rights violations.

After Daelena was found dead in her Los Angeles apartment on May 23, 2024, law enforcement classified her death as a suicide. Reports at the time stated she was discovered hanging in her bathroom, with no signs of forced entry.

But according to Adway, Kirikov told police he found her that way after returning from an argument earlier that night, a version of events Adway believes doesn’t add up.

His lawsuit claims that Daelena had experienced “multiple incidents of domestic violence” during her year-long relationship with Kirikov. Adway alleges that after she began communicating with someone new, Kirikov became increasingly angry and unstable. On the night of her death, the two allegedly argued in her apartment. Kirikov reportedly left and claims he later returned to find her deceased.

Adway says LAPD accepted Kirikov’s account without conducting a full investigation, never recovered a suicide note, and overlooked visible injuries on Daelena’s body, including bruises and abrasions that he believes suggest potential foul play.

He also points to what he calls a “systemic disregard” for investigating suspicious deaths involving young Black women, arguing the case was closed too quickly and without due diligence.

Adway is suing for wrongful death, civil rights violations, and negligence in law enforcement conduct.
