Ne-Yo Recalls Failed Studio Session w/ Keyshia Cole: ‘She Gets Up, Leaves & Doesn’t Come Back’
NeYo is opening up about a time things didn’t exactly go smoothly in the studio… and the artist involved was Keyshia Cole.
During an appearance on the We Sound Crazy podcast, Ne-Yo was asked if he’s ever had a session that didn’t go as planned. “I mean, yeah, it happens a lot,” he admitted. “I remember the first time I tried to write for Keyshia Cole and just couldn’t figure it out.”
He went on to explain the energy in the room felt off from the jump. “She kind of came in the studio on ten a little bit, which had already kind of rubbed me the wrong way, ’cause like, ‘Damn, I don’t even know you. Why you mad at me for?’”
After about half an hour, things reached a standstill. “She finally turns to me and goes, ‘What you got?’ I sing her what I got… she goes, ‘Yeah, that’s cool, hold on.’ She gets up and she leaves and she doesn’t come back.”
