Big Freedia Announces ‘Pressing Onward’ Gospel Album, Says The Music Is Helping Them Cope w/ Partner’s Death
Big Freedia is stepping into the gospel space.
The New Orleans rapper just announced their first gospel album, Pressing Onward, set to drop August 8, 2025. The title was inspired by Pressing Onward Baptist Church, where they joined the choir at age 10.
Freedia said in a statement:
“The church always spoke to me: the drama, the choir, and the attire. We are in uncertain times. I’m hoping fans can get some faith and hope from this album.”

She also took to X to open up about what this project means to her following the recent death of her partner, Devon Hurst:
“This album started as a message of healing for the world… but now, it’s me who’s holding on to the music for strength. Pressing Onward means more than ever now that Devon is gone. I am trusting and leaning on the word of God to get me thru this very difficult time in my life.”
Pressing Onward will include 14 tracks, including the previously released singles “Take My Hand,” “Church,” and “Sunday Best” featuring Tamar Braxton.
