Activist Tamika Mallory Pushes Back On Claims That Former NY Governor Andrew Cuomo Is ‘The Only One Who Can Stand Up To Trump’
Activist Tamika Mallory is speaking out against support for former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s bid to become the next mayor of New York City.
In a post shared to her Instagram earlier today (June 24), Tamika expressed concern over sentiments suggesting Cuomo is NYC’s best option to counteract controversial policies from the Trump administration.

She wrote:
“When I hear Black folks saying a white man (Cuomo) is the only one who can stand up to Trump, I have to shake my head… White men overwhelmingly support Trump. In fact, white men made him.”
She added that Black women, followed by Black men, have consistently been the primary groups resisting the current administration, which deepens her concerns about the direction of the upcoming mayoral race.
Cuomo served as New York’s governor from 2011 until his resignation in 2021, which followed a federal probe into his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and multiple allegations of sexual misconduct.
Following current NYC mayor Eric Adams’ bribery scandal, Cuomo announced his bid to run for mayor. He is currently facing off against Assemblyman and democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani, a candidate Tamika has openly supported, to secure the Democratic nomination in the race set for November.
What are your thoughts on Tamika’s stance?
