UPDATE: Surfers Rushed To Help Malcolm-Jamal Warner & His 8-Year-Old Daughter Before His Tragic Drowning

Malcolm-Jamal Warner’s final moments were marked by heroism from nearby surfers.

According to Costa Rican police, the 54-year-old actor was swimming with his 8-year-old daughter on Sunday (July 20) when the two began struggling in the water near Cocles Beach in Limón. Surfers quickly jumped in to help.

One surfer used his board to bring Warner’s daughter to safety, while a volunteer lifeguard pulled Warner and another surfer to shore. Despite receiving CPR for 45 minutes, Warner could not be revived.

An autopsy confirmed his cause of death as asphyxiation due to submersion.
