Former ‘Alligator Alcatraz’ Worker Says Detainees Are Packed In Tents, Have No Sunlight, & Shower Every 4 Days
A former employee at Florida’s controversial “Alligator Alcatraz” immigration detention facility is pulling back the curtain on what she says are “inhumane” conditions inside.
Lindsey, who worked as a corrections officer, told NBC6 she was only at the site for a week before catching COVID, but what she witnessed still haunts her: “When I got there, it was overwhelming. I thought it would get better. But it just never did.”

She says detainees are packed by the hundreds into tents that resemble “oversized kennels.” They have no access to sunlight, there is no clock inside, bathrooms are often backed up, and they only shower every other day or sometimes every four days.
Lindsey says she was eventually fired after testing positive for COVID and being accused of altering medical paperwork, which she denies. “I was fired. And yeah, I’m pissed off. But more so than ever, like they’re doing wrong.”
State officials have denied allegations of poor conditions.
