Plus-Size Advocate Samyra Announces Social Media Break After Accusing Cardi B Of Fueling Fatphobic H@rassment + Mother Shares Emotional Message Of Support
Plus-size advocate and influencer Samyra is speaking out after an exchange with Cardi B took a hurtful turn, prompting her mother to share a heartfelt message of support.
Samyra says she addressed Cardi B’s remarks about plus-size women “in a respectful way,” hoping the rapper might consider how her words affect fans outside society’s beauty standards. However, Samyra claims Cardi’s response — telling her to “shut the f**k up” and “calm my p*ssy” — fueled more harassment. “By speaking to me that way publicly, she signaled to millions that this kind of language and violence toward fat women is acceptable,” Samyra said.
The activist, already familiar with online hate, says the backlash brought a fresh wave of abuse in her comments and DMs. Amid the storm, Samyra’s mom posted a TikTok saying, “I love you. You’re perfect to me, and you deserve a lot more respect. Mommy loves you and will always be your biggest defender and protector.”
Samyra says she’s taking a short break to protect her mental health.
