Rachel Dolezal, Former NAACP Leader Who Posed As A Black Woman, Celebrates 48th Birthday
Rachel Doležal is feeling grateful as she marks another year of life.
The controversial activist, who also goes by Nkechi Diallo, recently celebrated her 48th birthday, sharing a selfie and a throwback baby photo on social media. She captioned the post, “How it started in 1977, How it’s going in 2025 ? #48years #birthday.”
#RachelDoležal first became a household name in 2015 when it was revealed she had been presenting herself as a Black woman for years, despite being born to white parents.
At the time, she was president of the #NAACP chapter in Spokane, Washington, and teaching African American studies. The story quickly went viral after her parents publicly confirmed she was not Black and had no African ancestry. Despite heavy criticism, Doležal stood by her identity, telling media outlets she “identifies as Black” and feels connected to Black culture. Nearly a decade later, she remains a polarizing figure and a frequent topic in conversations about race and identity.
