Gospel Singer Richard Smallwood, Known For Classics Like “Center Of My Joy” & “Total Praise,” Passes Away At 77

Sad news.

Richard Smallwood, a Grammy?nominated gospel singer, songwriter, and pianist known for his influential work in the genre, has d!ed at age 77. A rep for Smallwood shared with Variety that he passed following complications from kidney failure. During his decades?long career, his music was embraced and recorded by a wide range of artists, helping bridge gospel with mainstream audiences.

A statement shared to his official Instagram account read, “We are saddened to announce the passing of world-renowned artist, songwriter, and musician, Richard Smallwood. The family asks that you respect our privacy during this difficult time, while helping to celebrate the legacy he leaves behind and the gifts he unselfishly shared with the world.”
