J. Cole’s Legal Fight w/ Cam’ron Ends After ‘Ready 24’ Dispute Over Credits, Payment & Alleged Podcast Appearance
J. Cole and Cam’ron are putting their “Ready ’24” legal battle behind them.
According to court filings submitted Tuesday, May 26, attorneys for both sides said the rappers have “reached an agreement in principle” to settle the lawsuit tied to their collaboration.
The exact terms of the deal, including whether money or credit changes were involved, have not been publicly revealed.
Cam sued J. Cole last October, alleging that he was not properly compensated for contributing a featured verse to “Ready ’24.” The Harlem rapper also claimed Cole failed to follow through on an alleged agreement to either appear on one of Cam’ron’s future singles or join his sports-and-culture podcast, It Is What It Is.
In the lawsuit, Cam’ron’s attorneys wrote, “Two years later, with Cole having refused to honor his agreement to collaborate with plaintiff on either a single or on the podcast, defendants nevertheless released the sound recording.”
Cole’s legal team pushed back against the claims, arguing that no binding promise was ever made. They said Cam’ron appeared on the track “voluntarily and without condition,” adding, “Plaintiff encouraged and blessed defendants’ use of his performance, as it was to his career benefit.”
The song was recorded in 2022 and later appeared on Cole’s 2024 project Might Delete Later. The surprise mixtape debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 with 115,000 equivalent album units and featured appearances from Cam’ron, Gucci Mane, Ari Lennox, Bas, Central Cee, and others.
Neither side has publicly commented on the settlement.
Do you think Cam got his money finally?
