#TJBDebates: Mase Pushes Back On Jennifer Lopez’s Stance That You Have To Be Born In NYC To Be Considered A ‘Real New Yorker’

Will the real New Yorkers please stand up! ?

#JenniferLopez has sparked a debate after declaring in a recent interview that a “real New Yorker” has to be “born in one of the five boroughs” — Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, the Bronx, or Staten Island. Mase, who was born in Jacksonville, Florida, but raised in Harlem from childhood, clearly wasn’t feeling J.Lo’s take. Pushing back on her POV, he said in the latest episode of his What It Is podcast, “According to J.Lo, Harlem World is a fake.” Mase then questioned, “I think if you didn’t go to kindergarten there, if you didn’t go to elementary there…But if you’ve been there since kindergarten all the way through high school, at what point do you say a person is not from there?

Co-host Cam’ron also jumped in and backed Mase by drawing a comparison between Michael Jordan — born in #NewYork but raised in North Carolina — and Carmelo Anthony, a New York native who relocated to Baltimore as a child. #Mase also acknowledged that his Social Security card does technically list Florida as his home state, but stood firm, adding, “I see what she trying to say, but I’m definitely from where I’m from.” He also joked that Jennifer has “bigger stuff to worry about.” #TJBDebates

#TJBCrew, which side are you on?
