Barack Obama Recalls ‘Seinfeld’ Co-Creator Larry David Getting Defensive Over One Piece Of Feedback

Larry David may have shared the screen with former President Barack Obama, but according to the comedian, there was never any confusion about who was calling the shots.

A new anecdote from the upcoming HBO documentary Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness reveals a humorous exchange between David and Obama during filming. Director Jeff Schaffer recalled that after Obama offered a few creative notes on a scene, David quickly brushed them aside, responding, “Yeah, yeah, yeah, we got it.”

Schaffer said Obama jokingly called David out for dismissing his feedback after spending nearly 30 minutes discussing comedy. According to the director, the former president replied, “I spent a half an hour talking about how funny everything is. I give you one note and you get into a defensive crouch. When I was in the Oval Office, I took advice and listened to my advisors, and I was the president of the United States.”

Never one to pass up a punchline, David fired back with a response that reportedly had everyone laughing. “Yeah, but I’m the president of this,” he quipped, referring to the production.

The lighthearted moment is one of several behind-the-scenes stories featured in Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness, an HBO documentary exploring David’s decades-long career and signature comedic style.

The project includes interviews and appearances from several high-profile figures, including Obama, offering fans a closer look at the comedian’s life both on and off camera.
