Activist Tamika Mallory Responds After Jay-Z Seemingly Addressed Target Backlash During Concert Freestyle

Activist Tamika Mallory is weighing in on the conversation surrounding Jay-Z’s recent freestyle and the criticism he faced over his partnership with Target.

In a post shared to social media, Mallory referenced the debate sparked by the rap mogul’s comments during the opening night of his sold-out Yankee Stadium residency, where he appeared to address accusations that he had “sold out” by working with the retailer despite calls for a boycott.

I heard all the conversations around Jay’s freestyle, and I think accountability has to go both ways,” Mallory wrote. “It’s easy to ask why we’re not fighting every battle at once. The harder question is: Are we willing to unite behind one strategy long enough to make an impact?

As previously reported, Jay-Z used a live freestyle during his concert to respond directly to critics questioning his business relationship with Target. “They say I sold out. Yeah, I did sell out. Three nights. I sold Yankee Stadium the hell out,” he told the crowd, drawing cheers from fans in attendance. The activist’s comments come as discussions continue online over whether public figures should be expected to align their business dealings with political movements and consumer boycotts. What do you think about Tamika Mallory’s take?
