[AUDIO] Bishop Noel Jones Defends Preachers of LA On ‘Tom Joyner Morning Show’ + Deitrick Haddon Shocked By T.D. Jakes’ Criticism
A few saints, sinners and those that dabble in between had strong words about Oxygen’s ‘Preachers of L.A.’ before the season started earlier this month and that remains true only two episodes in. Earlier this week, Bishop Noel Jones got into a heated debated while defending his participation on the show. Tom Joyner Morning Show co-host Sybil Wilkes and Jones went back and forth. Check out their exchange below:
Bishop Jones:
I have always wanted to reduce the iconopathic proclivities that church people have towards their leaders. The problem is you put men on pedestals they can’t live on and at the end of the day we turn around and slaughter them, when nobody is perfect but Jesus Christ.”
Wilkes:
So, you all allowed yourselves to be put on pedestals and now you allow this TV show to knock you down?”
Jones:
You don’t allow yourself to be put on the pedestal. You can’t help the subjective proclivities of people who want to make you more than who you are.”
Wilkes:
You have a lot of great, fancy words but what you see in this, is men of God who are preaching the word, who are now seen as just regular guys but it is in such a disturbing [way].”
Jones:
It is not disturbing!…Who in the world, who has been going to church, especially in our culture, from slavery to now…has ever thought that the preacher was God?”
Wilkes:
A lot of people.
Joyner added,
He should be god like, don’t you think? More god because he is a messenger.
Jones replied,
He is a messenger and a messenger is always flawed.

In other Preachers of LA news…
Last weekend, the show became a ‘Hot Topic’ during mega-pastor Bishop T.D. Jakes’ service. In short, during offering the well-known pastor (who is best friends with cast member Bishop Noel Jones) criticized the show (without calling it by name), telling his congregation:
Now, I know you been watching that junkon TV. I want to tell you right now, not one dime of what you’re sowing right now will buy my suit. I want you to know my car is paid for. I want you to know I got my house on my own. I want you to know I’m not bling-blinging. I am not shake and bake. The devil is a lie! I have sold enough books and produced enough movies. I don’t need your offering to pay for this little slimy suit. So I rebuke that spirit in the name of JesusChrist.
This week, cast member Deitrick Haddon called into a radio station and shared his thoughts on Jakes’ comments saying:
I have the absolute utmost respect for Bishop TD Jakes and what he represents. I considered him one of our generals in this generation. I was a bit taken back and shocked when I saw his view on the show, being that he’s a forefather in unorthodox, unconventional methods of sharing the Gospel, whether it be through MegaFest or partnering with comedians or Oprah.
Interesting. Preacher of L.A. airs Wednesday’s at 9 PM on Oxygen.
